New Rivalry In the East?

K-Mart And The Nets May Have New Rivals In The Pistons

-Nets vs. Pistons- The only series that anyone has been talking about in the East and after my article last week has me thinking; is this a rivalry? It's closer than Knicks/Nets and with a good series here, it could very well become one.  Pistons fans, along with sports writers have basically handed the Detroit team the series. The Nets have won 14 straight Eastern Conference Playoff games. The streak will probably end in this series, but the Nets hope their string of seven straight series wins over Eastern foes continues. The key to the series: Tayshaun Prince against Richard Jefferson- If Jefferson badly outplays Prince, the Nets will probably take the series.

-Woe is Me-ts- the other team in New York must feel like it is cursed nowadays. The latest setback is news that Jose Reyes, the teams brightest young player, has still not healed from the hamstring pull he got in Spring Training. The injury has not in fact healed at all. Reyes, whom the Mets hoped would be back by this week, maybe out till the All-Star Break and beyond. Meanwhile, the Mets offense showed some signs of life this last week in San Diego. More on the Mets in The View this week.

-Yankees the Yankees again- swept the As. Swept the Royals and here they come. The team is starting to hit, though the pitching outside of Javier Vasquez and Kevin Brown is a concern.  This shouldnt be news; the Yankees are arguably the most talented offensive team in baseball. It was only a matter time before the bats woke up. On the other hand, their pitching is not so stable. It should not hurt them in the regular season, but come postseason it would be a concern. Look for the Yankees to make a move if it does not stabilize soon.

- NHL Playoffs- Repeat after me: the NHL playoffs are the BEST playoffs in all of sports. Why? Because only in the NHL could a underdog like the Calgary Flames push the star studded Detroit Red Wings to the brink of elimination.  Only in hockey could the San Jose Sharks do the same for the big name Colorado Avalanche. The greatest thing about the Sharks and Wings is that they are doing it as a team; sure Jarome Iginla and Patrick Marleau are stars, but the reason those teams are where they are is because of lesser known guys like Jonathan Cheechoo and Craig Conroy oh yes and those goalies Evgeni Nabakov and Miikka Kiprusoff.
